There are around 130 Universities in the UK which can broadly be classified into two categories:

One of the biggest advantages of UK education in comparison to other educational destinations worldwide is that the UK provides programs of shorter duration.

Financial Requirement for UK Student Visa

Acceptable Funds

Self-Funded & Parents

– Fixed Deposits and Funds in Savings Bank accounts are the only acceptable modes.

– Source of Funds

Explanation of major receipts into the account by providing necessary evidence.

  • – If the applicant is taking a loan, please confirm the collateral (Recent FD or Property) used for this loan.
  • – If the student or student’s sponsors have Fixed Deposits that were prepared recently, then the student may have to submit the source of funds for these FDs.
  • – If there have been any major recent deposits in the sponsors’ savings accounts in the last 28 days, then they may be required to submit sources of these deposits.

Some acceptable sources of recent funds:

  1. – Liquidating shares or mutual funds
  2. – Transferring funds from cooperative banks to acceptable financial institutions (e.g., nationalized banks)
  3. – Liquidating an old Fixed Deposit (more than 5-6 months old) and depositing the amount in a savings account.
  4. – Sale of immovable property – the transaction should tally with the cheque number given in the sale deed (supported by sale deed and valuation report of the property)
  5. – Transferring funds from Provident Fund Accounts (GPF/PPF)
  6. – Transfer of funds from Post Office Account to acceptable Banks
  7. – Agricultural sale bill – deposit date and amount should correlate with the sale bill, J-Forms

Acceptable Financial Documents

Once we receive payment confirmation from the student, this will be shared with the university in an appropriate manner. The required financial documents must be prepared using the following guidelines. Students are also required to undergo a TB test from a panel physician, a list of which is available for reference.

  1. – Funds must be 28 days old if they are in the form of savings or fixed deposits.
  2. – Funds should be in the name of the student or student’s parents (sponsors other than these, such as grandparents, uncle/aunt, siblings, etc., are strictly not allowed).
  3. – If funds are available in the parents’ account, then a ‘Parent Consent Letter’ (format attached) and the birth certificate of the applicant must be submitted.
  4. The following types of funds are accepted for UK student visa lodgement:
    • – Education Loan or / and
    • – Saving Account or/ and
    • – Fixed Deposits
    • – Self-Funded & Parents (Fixed Deposits and Funds in Savings Bank Account are the only acceptable modes).
    • – Education Loans: Loan from nationalized or private sector banks. A guarantor or Collateral Security is required. Interest rates are low, and repayment begins after completion of the program.
    • – Employment: Current immigration regulations permit students to work part-time 20 hours a week during study time and 40 hours a week during vacation.
    • Scholarships: Students also receive scholarships depending on academic achievements and the overall profile.

NOT-Acceptable Financial Documents

  1. – Funds kept in banks that are not RBI regulated or do not maintain their records electronically.
  2. – FD and savings accounts which are lien marked, and loans taken against these accounts.
  3. – Bank statements electronic printouts that are not on letterhead. If not on letterhead, then they MUST be supported by a balance certificate provided on letterhead with the logo and address of the bank along with the seal and signature from the bank officer.
  4. – Conditional Education loan sanctioned letter.
  5. Any of the following is not accepted:
    • – Bank accounts with the post-office
    • – RD account
    • – PPF account
    • – Investment in shares or bonds
    • – Gold loan, Crop loan, Mortgage loan
    • – Overdraft facility
    • – Loan against FD

New UK Graduate Immigration Route

Key Aspects You Need to Know

Post Study Work Visa: New UK Graduate Immigration Route

  • – The UK has re-introduced a Post Study Work Visa of two years after completing a Bachelor’s or Master’s course.
  • – Students who will complete their degrees after June 2021 will be eligible for the Post Study Work Visa.

Eligibility Criteria to apply for the Graduate Route

  • – A Graduate visa gives you permission to stay in the UK for at least 2 years after successfully completing a course in the UK.
  • – You must be in the UK when you apply.
  • – To apply for the UK Graduate Immigration Route, international students must meet the following criteria:
  • – One must have completed the qualification mentioned on one’s Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies (CAS) at Bachelor, Master’s, or Doctorate level.
  • – One must have a valid Tier 4 or student visa required to study in the UK at the time of lodging the graduate route application.
  • How long you can stay? A Graduate visa lasts for 2 years. If you have a PhD or other doctoral qualification, it will last for 3 years.

Fees for the Graduate Route

At the time of applying for the UK Graduate Route, graduates will be required to pay the Immigration Health Surcharge along with the fees for the graduate route as a part of the application process. Check out the fees below:

Healthcare Surcharge

  • If you’re eligible for a Graduate visa for:
    • – 2 years – it will cost £2,070
    • – 3 years – it will cost £3,105
  • From 1st January 2024, international students will only be able to bring dependents if they are government-sponsored or are studying for a Ph.D., doctorate, or a research-based higher degree. Dependents who are already in the United Kingdom can still extend their leave if they are eligible to do so.

    • Time to pay the graduate route fee of £822 and health surcharge of £1,035 per year.

Ranking of UK Universities

Ranking of UK universities can be determined by referring to the following sources:

Counseling Tips – UK

  • – The student is looking for a one-year Master’s course from a world-class university.
  • – The student has a net budget of around INR 18 -19 lakhs.
  • – The student has good marks in English in the 12th standard or has studied in English Medium and does not want to take up an English proficiency test and wants to apply based on a Medium of Instruction Letter.
  • – The student has gaps during or after completion of studies.
  • – The student wishes to pursue a Master’s degree, is married, and wants to take the dependent along.

Ranking of UK Universities:

The ranking of universities may be checked from different sources mentioned above. However, the Guardian League Table is the most popular.

We can recommend the UK as an option if the profile shows that:

  • – If a student is looking for highly ranked universities but does not meet the Entry Criteria, we can suggest admission through Foundation and Pre-Masters courses offered by pathway providers like INTO Partnerships, Kaplan International Colleges, Navitas, Study Group, or Cambridge Education Group, which offer progression into a Bachelor’s degree after Foundation and a Master’s degree after successfully completing the Pre-masters at high-ranked universities.
  • – If the student is marginally missing the entry requirements of highly ranked universities, then the above-mentioned pathway providers also offer a Year One entry called: International Diploma at the undergraduate level for a few courses leading to direct progression into the second year of a Bachelor’s degree in some of their respective universities.

We should suggest that the student, once in the UK, register with the Career Placement department of the University for assistance in finding full-time and part-time jobs. The student should start searching for graduate-level jobs in the UK from the beginning so that they can find a suitable job by the end of the course.

The focus of the search should only be for UKVI registered Employers having a license to sponsor international candidates. UKVI maintains a Register of Tier 2 sponsors, and currently, there are 30,834 employers registered with UKVI who need skilled people for their work and are ready to recruit candidates.

The student should also search for jobs online at Live Graduate Level Jobs. Engineers are on the shortage occupation list, and the UK needs skilled engineers who can contribute to the economy’s growth.

Overall, if the student receives proper guidance and is proactive, the chances of getting a good job after completing their studies are very bright.
